I decided to give myself a bit of "down time" and do something I really haven't done in years - watch TV. And so, since I am currently editing a wedding magazine (Westchester Weddings), I decided to watch Bridezilla. Maybe I would walk away with some good ideas for editorial, I figured...
Boy, did I have a RUDE AWAKENING. A scary looking - 300 lb. Bridezilla was shouting at her equally porky fiance as he did a cake tasting. She was making fun of him - belittling him - verbally and emotionally abusing him. Then she woke him up at 5 in the morning and stood around eating donut after donut while he worked out with a personal trainer.
Another Bridezilla yelled at her mother after she dyed Mom's hair a horrible shade for the wedding.
Someone must be supporting this "shmutz" because it is on national cable TV but who? And why? Does anyone out there really find this entertaining? I found myself flinching through the entire show! It's one thing to show (haha) foibles and flops on TV. Heck, I grew up watching Jack and Mr. Furley on Three's Company and I loved Vinnie Barbarino on Welcome Back Kotter - but shrewish women abusing everyone around them--THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT? Someone puh-leeze write to me and tell me why this show is even on television!!!!
Next time, I'm just gonna crank up the music and hop on the treadmill. No wonder I don't watch TV.
